UK Prefer Paper-Based Packaging

Regardless of your industry it is important to know what it is that your customers want to see from you, and it would appear that for the UK based packaging industries that is going to mean offering more paper-based packaging solution. So – take note food packaging suppliers around Britain, because according to the latest survey by YouGov more than half of the UK would like to see more of their food produce and supermarkets offering paper packaging and paper bag solutions.

Paper is a pretty good option for packaging; it can be manufactured specifically to provide an attractive, sturdy and effective solution. But the real reason for the popularity seems to be that it is such a degradable selection, making it a more eco-friendly solution and more convenient for recycling – certainly something that we can appreciate when it comes to the more environmentally aware customers, which is becoming an increasing percentage in every demographic thanks to the increased awareness around the topic of environmentally friendly products and technologies.

Of course, there are benefits to provide paper packaging to your customers, not only because this is what your customers want now, but also because it is a flexible, easy to work with, reasonably durable, recyclable and easy to brand (seriously – printing doesn’t get any easier than on paper), making it an ideal solution for a wide variety of industries.

The survey showed that 57% would prefer paper packaging across the UK, with 31% having no preference and just 8% opting for the use of plastic packaging, making the winner quite clear, and of course this was nationwide – the numbers did vary slightly in certain regions and areas, with cities in particular showing a high preference for paper than more rural areas. In London in particular there were 62% favouring paper packaging over the alternatives.

Of course, aside from saying they would simply like for more of their packaging to be paper based a total of 46% of those asked around the UK stated that they would be more likely to purchase a product with paper packaging than not, while 47% said that it didn’t make a big difference and just 3% said that they were less likely to purchase a product that used paper based packaging. The math here is of course very simple; go paper based and please a broader number of your customers.

There are a number of benefits when it comes to paper based packaging products, with the benefits of paper cups and other such products already being rather well known, other options that are easy to provide include paper bags, which can be effective if used in grocery or fresh food shops and stalls, being a reasonably cheap and effective option, not just a popular one.
